Sustainability
Succession planning for the company and the environment
The term sustainability, from an environmental perspective, is managing the connection of the three primary areas of influence for your business: People, Planet, and Profit (buzz-term: Triple Bottom Line).
For your business each of these areas is reflected in:
People: The community in which you operate, and you and your workforces lives. This is the "Take Action" part to ensure the social and environmental health of your supporting community is at its peak. This is often achieved through reinvestment in to the host community through long-term programs, one time initiatives, or even volunteering in existing groups.
Planet: This is the natural capital, the traditionally overlooked aspect of business. This is the size of your ecological footprint, the ways in which your business has measurable impact to the environment. This is often measure through lifecycle assessments of your products and services from a cradle-to-cradle perspective.
Profit: While conventionally viewed as the internal profit of the organization, in the sustainable approach it is the total value of the economic impact to the host society. Essentially the total result of all influences, which includes internal economic benefits.
